Security has been beefed up in Akure, the Ondo state capital ahead of the visit of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party President Goodluck Jonathan to the state tomorrow.
The visit is part of his state wide tour to campaign for the next month general election
Policemen and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were surveying the venue of the campaign rally ahead of the visit yesterday. Continue..
Reports from the state police command had it that the security operatives will be deployed to the state to maintain adequate security.
Police Image Maker in the state Wole Ogodo confirmed that if need be security officers may be deployed to the state to ensure peace and harmony during the president’s visit.
Ogodo said “all necessary machinery have been put in place to ensure that there is no hitch during the President’s campaign in Ondo state.
“ I can assure you that the Police have done all the relevant things and there will be no crisis before, during and after the campaign.”
Ogodo said that the operation guidelines had been released by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Eke and therefore there was no tension in the state.
Meanwhile, the state government in a statement by the Commissioner for Information Kayode Akinmade said the Peoples’ Democratic party’ candidate in the February 14 Presidential election will address a rally in the city in the course of the campaign.
The statement said the rally will be the mother of all rallies because the state is President Jonathan’s territory and that of the South West Coordinator of the Goodluck Jonathan national campaign council, Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
The rally, he said is expected to attract leaders of the party as well as its members and supporters in the South-West zone, where President Jonathan will articulate his programmes for the country in his efforts to secure re-election.
President Jonathan is expected to address a rally at the democracy park after visiting some traditional rulers in the state.
