Algerian troops kill seven militants near border

Algerian army troops killed 7 militants and arrested one another in two separate operations near borders with Mali and Libya, a security source told Xinhua on Sunday.
The source said two SUV vehicles were destroyed while attempting to cross the border of Mali with Algeria, near the southernmost locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar.
Five militants were killed during the operation, and a load of arms and missiles were retrieved.
In another separate operation, the army troops killed two militants while trying to infiltrate Algeria via the Libyan border. One vehicle was destroyed and four Katiyusha missiles were retrieved, the source added.
Since the outbreak of chaos in north of Mali and Libya, Algeria has been deploying more troops along the borders in a bid to thwart the intrusion of militants and arms.
