The Ogun State commissioner of police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, has said the command arrested 220 armed robbers and killed 37 others during shootouts with his men between January and September 2014.
The police boss, who spoke at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, during a parade of some suspected cultists and robbers, added that within the period under review, 48 guns, which included 10 AK-47 rifles, and 1,600 ammunition were recovered.

He said, “Based on an intelligence report we got, our men swung into action and 31 of the suspected cultists were arrested. Banners, berrets and T-shirts used during the initiation were recovered.”
Also, the command said it was probing the cause of the suicide of a 60-year-old retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sunday Isokpehi, and what made him kill his 40-year-old wife, Gladys, before his suicide.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police would investigate whether he legally acquired the double-barrelled gun he used or not.
Isokpehi was reported to have shot his wife to death on Saturday after returning to their home in the Ota area of the state from a social function, accusing her of being drunk.
He thereafter shot himself to death.
Adejobi stated that the late ASP did not kill his son as formerly believed.
He said, “We are still investigating the immediate and remote causes of the tragic incident.
“We will find out whether the man was depressed or was under any under influence. A normal person will not open fire on his wife and then kill himself.
“We will investigate how he got the double-barrelled gun he used in committing the dastardly act.”
He said Isokpehi retired in March 2014 from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
