2015: Why I want to be President – Buhari
Former Head of State, and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday in Abuja formally declared his intention to seek his party’s nomination to contest next year’s presidential election, saying the country is tired of 15 years of purposeless leadership by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The expression of Buhari’s intention is coming exactly one week after former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, another presidential aspirant declared to run for the plum office on the party’s platform.

Nigeria cannot be transformed overnight – Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday said that despite some positive steps taken by his administration in placing the country on the right track, transformation of the nation cannot be achieved overnight.
The president spoke when he received Primatial award conferred on him by Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Anglican Church, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh at the Presidential Villa.

Delta State Football Association Chairman, Amaju Pinnick, on Tuesday emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The 43-year-old, who is also the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, scored 32 votes after second round of voting to win the election in Warri, Delta State.
The Chairman of the NFF Electoral committee, Sampson Ebomhe, who announced the result, said Lobi Stars Chairman Dominic Iorfa came second with eight votes while former Secretary-General of the federation Taiwo Ogunjobi came third with four votes. Continue..

to become sex workers in the country have been rescued, PM News reports.
The two girls left Nigeria on 11 July with a man who promised to take them to Malaysia via Burkina Faso for a better life. The trafficker explained to them that they will be given fresh passports and some vaccines in Burkina Faso before proceeding to Malaysia for well paid jobs.But once in Ouagadugu, the capital of Burkina Faso, they were handed over to a Nigerian woman called Onome who introduced them to prostitution. Microsoft unveils Windows 10 with Start Menu
Microsoft has disclosed the first details of Windows 10 – its next operating system (OS).
The name is a surprise bearing in mind it represents a jump from the last version – Windows 8.
The software will run on a wide range of devices from smartphones and tablets to PCs and Xbox games consoles, with applications sold from a single store. It also marks the return of the Start Menu, which had been removed from Windows 8.
In addition to offering a list of the user’s favourite applications, the menu also brings up resizable tiles – similar to those featured in Windows 8’s touch-centric interface – on PCs and tablets.
These provide a quick view of notifications from relevant applications, such as details of new emails, Facebook messages and weather forecast updates. Continue..

"When I marked 70 and people prayed that I would be up to 80, I said amen. When they said I would be up 90, I said well, amen. But when they said 100, I didn’t say amen. I didn't because I don’t know what offence I would have committed for God to keep me up to 100 in this sinful world when a crown of glory is awaiting me in heaven. I wouldn’t mind to be 92 though, so that I will be alive to preach when Bishop Oyedepo is 80. But to live up to 100, I don’t know about that" he said
Obasanjo enrols for Ph.D at 77
A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has enrolled for an MA/Ph.D. in Christian Theology at the National Open University of Nigeria.
His admission letter titled, ‘‘Provisional admission for postgraduate programme – 2014 session’’ and dated September 29, was signed by NOUN Registrar, Josephine Akinyemi.
It reads, “With reference to your application for admission to a postgraduate programme of this university, I am pleased to inform you that you have been offered a provisional admission for postgraduate course leading to the award of MA/Ph.D. Christian Theology in School of Arts and Social Sciences of the university with effect from the date of completion of first registration.”
Obasanjo, who arrived the Victoria Island headquarters of the university on Tuesday morning in a black Lexus jeep with number plate Lagos APP 769 DB to receive his admission letter, gave insight into why he was returning to school at 77. Continue....

Tension as NFF elections hold in Warri
The troubled Nigerian Football Federation appears to be swimming in more troubled waters with elections into its executive board scheduled to hold today at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Warri, with a purported court injunction served the 37 FA Associations and the principal officers including Sports Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo to stop the elections.But football stakeholders who trooped into the oil city yesterday were not bordered by the fresh Court case which would no doubt spell more doom on Nigerian football. Apparently aware that the Warri Congress might ignore the order, the Federal High Court in Jos sent out fresh notices warning of the consequences of disobedience to Order of Court which it spelt out – Take notice that unless you obey the directives contained in this Order, you will be guilty of Contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.Out-going President Aminu Maigari and Scribe Musa Amadu were copied. After several campaigns by Vanguard to draw the attention of the Lagos State Government to the deplorable state of the road which links the popular ghetto community, Ajegunle to the ever-busy Oshodi/Apapa expressway, residents, Sunday, heaved sigh of relief as construction giant, Julius Berger, JB, Plc commenced repairs on the road. The road was abandoned for at least 14 years.Vanguard gathered that the ongoing palliative measures which commenced Saturday, had forced residents entering and leaving the community through the Ottor-Wharf Bus-stop, to trek long distances for two days running
Residents, who spoke to Vanguard, described the road as horrible and difficult to access during rainy period, lamenting that it has been neglected by successive administrations in the state, even as several appeals for major repairs have fallen on deaf ears. Continue...

Xbox One: Microsoft beats Sony to China launch
Microsoft has launched the Xbox One in China – becoming the first major console maker to enter what could be a massively lucrative market.
The first consoles were sold in Shanghai, priced at 4,299 yuan ($699, £430). Sony and Nintendo are yet to launch their respective products. 60 soldiers face trial for mutiny today
Another set of 60 soldiers are to be arraigned before a General Court Martial by military authorities in Abuja on Tuesday (today) for mutiny.
The soldiers allegedly committed mutiny on August 4, 2014 by refusing to join troops in Maiduguri for “an operation.”
Their arraignment which is to take place at the Sani Abacha Barracks in Abuja comes as The PUNCH gathered on Monday that some of the 12 soldiers convicted on September 15, 2014 by the GCM had notified the Court of Appeal of their intention to challenge their sentences.
The GCM headed by Brig. Gen. C. Okonkwo had sentenced 12 out of 18 soldiers facing trial guilty of mutiny among other offences and sentenced them to death. Five of them were however discharged and acquitted and one sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment with hard labour and reprimand. Continue..
