Don’t impose candidates, group warns Dickson

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson
A pro-democracy group, Niger Delta Youth Forum, has warned Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson against the imposition of candidates on the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
The warning was contained in a letter on Tuesday sent by the group to the Governor over an alleged interference in the nomination process by the PDP in the existing eight local government areas of the state.
The group, in the letter signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Mike Olomu, called on Dickson to stop the deliberate attempts by some state party leaders to hijack the elective process of the PDP and hide behind the facade of zoning of elective positions to disenfranchise some people and impose others on the people. Continue...
The group said though the PDP respected zoning of positions at the state and national levels, the zoning of positions allowed for proper scrutiny of the calibre of persons to be presented for elective positions at the state and National Assemblies elections.
The NDYF noted that after a review of the names of aspirants of the PDP that had procured forms and were identified members of the Restoration Team, the choices of some aspirants were wrong and against the decision of the people.
The group stated that though Dickson might have meant well by pushing for some of his aides to be at the state and National Assemblies, the choices of some of them were wrong and should be reconsidered in the interest of peace and stability.”
