Patience Jonathan donates food items to Kwara residents

Wife of the President, Mrs Patience Jonathan, has donated three lorry loads of food items to women and youths across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
A statement by the state Peoples Democratic Party’s Publicity Secretary, Rex Olawoye, on Saturday, said the food items were handed over to the state Chairman of the party, Iyiola Oyedepo and his executive members.
Olawoye said there was pervading poverty in the state, adding that the items would help in reducing the hardship suffered by the people.
He expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the gesture, while assuring her of fair distribution of the items. Continue.
“We are grateful to our mother for reaching out to us. We are happy for this timely gesture to our party members and other members of the public.
“We are particularly delighted that these food items are coming at a time they are needed most.
“Considering the excruciating poverty that has continued to bite hard in Kwara today in the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress, especially among our women and youths, there is no better time to receive such intervention than now,” Olawoye said.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the PDP in the State, Mr. Adebayo Babalola, has urged leaders to connect with people’s yearnings through government policies and programmes.
He said the welfare of the people should be paramount, adding that leaders that addressed the yearnings of their people would always be remembered by the electorate.
According to him, the re-election of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose and the huge crowd that attended his inauguration indicated that Nigerians would always recognise leaders who addressed their welfare.
Babalola spoke on Saturday during his declaration as a governorship aspirant in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
He stressed that residents of the state had been denied purposeful leadership, adding that he would transform the state if he emerged the governor.
