Super Eagles Stephen Keshi has expressed serious concern over the injury suffered by Victor Moses on Saturday.
Moses suffered a recurrence of the tight thigh he injured in last week’s win over Newcastle in Stoke’s 3-1 defeat to Sunderland in their Premier League game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
The Nigeria winger retired in the 18th minute – shortly after teeing up Charlie Adam’s equaliser. according to Goal, Stoke manager Mark Hughes is eager to get to the root of the 23-year-old’s mystery thigh injury. “We had him scanned and nothing showed on the scan. He trained Thursday and Friday and looked good to go, Goal quoted Hughes as saying on Sunday. Continue..
“But he felt the discomfort and we weren’t going to take a risk. “We are hoping it’s nothing serious, but given nothing showed on the scan we’ve got to get to the bottom of what’s causing it.”
And Keshi, who is banking on Moses to make his return to the national team count by leading the Eagles to victory in their first leg 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Khartoum on Saturday – to revive Nigeria’s hopes of winning a ticket to defend their title in Morocco, fears the player may not be available for the game. The reverse fixture takes place in Abuja on October 15.
Moses was not invited for the game against Congo, which the Eagles lost 3-2 in Calabar on September 6. He also missed the second AFCON Group A qualifier against South Africa in Cape Town four days later. The encounter ended in a goalless draw.
“I was naturally worried to see him (Moses) get injured. He’s been in good form and I just hope that the injury is not that serious because we need him for those important games against Sudan,” Keshi said.
Nigeria have picked only a point from two games in Group A and will need maximum points against pointless Sudan in the next two games to get their qualification back on track.
