Eid-el-Kabir: Lagos offers free bus service for residents

The Lagos State Government on Friday in Lagos said it would provide free bus service for residents on Saturday to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Mr Dayo Mobereola, said this in a statement issued by the company’s External Relations Officer, Mr Kolawole Ojelabi.
Mobereola said, “In order to ease the movement of commuters during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Lagos State Government is offering Lagos residents free bus ride on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014.”
He urged the public to keep faith with the government in all its transport projects, aimed at making life and movement easier for residents.
He said, “Commuters along the Bus Rapid Transit route will enjoy free ride from Mile 12 to CMS, while those on the Bus Franchise Scheme will ride free on Ikotun-Igando-Iyana-Ipaja-Ikeja.”
He called on Nigerians to reflect on the significance of the celebration, which is sacrificial giving and urged that it should not be reduced to mere eating and drinking alone. Continue..
The managing director called on all to use the holiday to reflect on the current security challenges being faced in the country and prayed for its quick end.
The LAMATA boss also called for prayers for the country as she approached the next general elections and also remember the Chibok girls, praying for their safe return to their families.
He called on Lagos residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious movement or activity by any person or group of persons to security agents.
Mobereola called for moderation during the celebration and ensure that there were no crashes on the roads.
“As a public transport planning, franchising and implementation agency of Lagos State, LAMATA remains committed to promoting the achievement of an integrated multi-modal transport system in the state,” he said.
In a related development,Managing Director, LAGBUS Asset Management Limited, Mr Babatunde Disu, operators of LAGBUS, also announced free bus ride in the LAGBUS on Saturday, Oct. 4.
He said, “The Lagos State Government, through LAGBUS and its Franchise, will provide free bus ride to Lagos residents on Eid-el-Kabir day.
“It is a move aimed at promoting the use of public transportation, as well as reducing congestion on Lagos roads during the festivities.
“According to the schedule of services, the free bus ride will be provided on all LAGBUS routes across the metropolis.”
He said the service would run within LAGBUS operational hours starting from 6am to 10pm.
Disu wished all residents a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
