The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has said his alleged plan to defect from the Labour Party to the Peoples Democratic Party remains a rumour. He said because of this, he would not want to comment on it.
Mimiko spoke with journalists after he attended the National Executive Committee of the LP, which held at its national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
“I don’t want to react to that (defection) because it is a mere rumour,” he said.
He, however, stated that he would support the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan anytime the president expresses the determination to run. Continue..
Earlier, the National Chairman Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, had defended Mimiko, saying that the party was not aware of his alleged plan to defect.
He said Mimiko was at the meeting as a member of the party and that anything contrary to that was not known to the members of the party.
Apart from this, he said there was no way the governor would have taken part in the meeting if he had ceased from being a member of the LP.
Nwanyanwu, who said the national convention of the party would hold in Akure on October 4, said he would step down as the national chairman of the party at the convention.
He said, “You have seen him (Mimiko) here. As I’m talking to you, he is still a bonafide member of the Labour Party.
“We don’t have to base everything on speculation. You can see that he is here and we have discussed everything concerning the Labour Party together. He is here live and direct.”
