World football governing body FIFA has queried the impeachment of Aminu Maigari as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation. The FIFA letter obtained by The PUNCH demanded full explanation regarding the said dismissal of Maigari as president of the NFF.
Maigari was allegedly impeached by his executive committee on July 24.
But in a letter from FIFA dated August 4, 2014 and signed the deputy secretary general Markus Kattner to NFF general secretary Musa Amadu, FIFA demanded a more detailed explanation leading to Maigari’s removal.
They asked for the agenda of the executive committee meeting that sacked Maigari, the conditions for the amendment of the agenda and whether the president was given the chance to defend himself.
The letter reads, “We acknowledge the decision of some members of the NFF Executive Committee to start the meeting with an amendment of the agenda and to proceed with the removal of the president through a motion of impeachment. However, the minutes provided very little with regard to the convocation and the agenda of the meeting, the quorum, the conditions of the amendment of the agenda and if the president was offered the right to be heard – and on which precise accusations.
“In order to better ascertain the statutory ground of such an important decision, we ask you to provide us with a more detailed report. Indeed, we would like to know if the NFF statutes were correctly implemented.
“We would like to remind you as a general rule, the dismissal of members of the executive committee is the prerogative of the general assemblies.”
The world football ruling body also expressed surprise that despite the lifting of the suspension of the country, the situation in Nigeria has become “so inextricable.”
Elections to the executive committee are due to be conducted on August 26. Our correspondent learnt that it was on the heels of the letter from FIFA, that the NFF executive committee on Thursday suspended two other members, Chris Green and Yusuf Ahmed, for what they described as “anti-board activities
