Eden Hazard, Petr Cech, Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Matic and Chelsea captain John Terry were all in attendance. Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and former Tottenham Hotspur duo Edgar Davids and Jermain Defoe along with former Manchester United ace Louis Saha were all there.

The event was to raise money to help give young Africans access to better healthcare and a chance to gain an education. Christina Milian provided the night's entertainment. More picx.

Japan maglev train breaks world speed record again

A Japanese magnetic levitation train has broken its own world speed record, hitting 603km/h (374mph) in a test run near Mount Fuji. The train beat the 590km/h speed it had set last week in another test. Maglev trains use electrically charged magnets to lift and move carriages above the rail tracks. Central Japan Railway (JR Central), which owns the trains, wants to introduce the service between Tokyo and the central city of Nagoya by 2027. Chelsea midfield sensation, Cesc Fabregas has stated that he want to win the English Premier League title after 27 years wait.

The Spaniard returned to England from Barcelona in the summer and would have gone to Arsenal had the Gunners taken up the option to sign him which was agreed when he left the club in 2011. During his eight years at Arsenal, Fabregas failed to win the title, emerging into the side just after the Gunners’ last triumph. Turkey arrests Syria-bound British family

Turkish police arrested a British family in the capital Ankara after being tipped off that they would try to cross the Syrian border to join Islamic State militants, a Turkish official said Tuesday.

“We received the intelligence from British police on April 19 that a British couple with four children may cross into Syria to join ISIS,” the official told AFP on condition of anonymity, using an alternative name for the terrorist group. Continue..

Xenophobic attacks: Nigeria counts losses

Following xenophobic attacks by South Africans against foreigners, particularly those of African descent, Nigerians have been counting their losses with the Nigerian Consul-General, Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke saying the loss by Nigerians included looted shops, burnt shops, two burnt mechanic workshops, 11 burnt cars and two stolen cars, among others.

Bomb blast on UN bus kills at least six in Somalia

At least six UN workers were killed in Somalia on Monday when a huge bomb destroyed a bus in the northeastern town of Garowe, police said.

Afghanistan suicide bomb in Jalalabad leaves many dead

At least 33 people have been killed and 100 injured in a suicide bomb attack in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. The blast happened outside a bank, said the chief of police for Nangarhar province, Fazel Ahmad Sherzad. He said the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber on a motorbike. Government workers and military personnel were waiting to collect their salaries outside the branch of the New Kabul Bank when the explosion occurred, Mr Sherzad said. Police said another bomb was discovered nearby, and was destroyed in a controlled explosion. China South Rail buys UK maritime engineering firm

A subsidiary of train maker China South Rail has bought a UK manufacturer of ocean engineering products, Specialist Machine Developments (SMD). Zhuzhou CSR Times Electric has paid £130m for the Wallsend-based firm. SMD will remain independent in its business operations, and day-to-day functions will still be controlled by its original management team. CSR president Liu Hualong said it would help SMD expand its operations and unlock further global opportunities. Keshi to sign contract this week

The Nigeria Football Federation has disclosed that out-of-contract coach Stephen Keshi will sign a new contract to manage the Super Eagles this week.

Keshi’s contract expired at the end of Nigeria’s campaign at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but he was still allowed to manage the team during the qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

North Korea First Lady makes first public appearance in 2015

North Korea's First Lady, Ri Sol-j, has been spotted out in public for the first time in 2015. The last time she was seen in public was in December 2014 at a ceremony commemorating the death of her husband's father, Kim Jong-il.
